3 Hot Cocoa Recipes

Hey, Babes!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Holiday season! I am one if those crazy people who start listening to Christmas music at the beginning of November. As well as watching Hallmark movies, and yes decorating. I just love how cozy it is this time of year. Now when I think of being cozy I think of curling up under blankets, watching movies, and drinking some warm hot cocoa. Today I wanted to share 3 delicious and easy hot cocoa recipes.

Peppermint White Hot Cocoa (from Cincy Shopper)

– Ingredients:4 cups milk, 1/2 cup white chocolate chips, 1 peppermint candy cane, 1 tsp peppermint extract,  whipped cream and crushed peppermint (for garnish)

-To make: on low heat milk on stove top along with candy cane (it will melt), pour in chocolate chips stirring until melted, remove from heat and add extact, pour in mug and garnish.

Peanut Butter Hot Cocoa (from The Happier Homemaker
-Ingredients: 2 cupts skim milk (I used whole milk), 3/4 cup chocolate chip morsels, 3 tbsp powdered peanut butter or 2 tbsp creamy peanut butter (this is what I used)

– To Make: combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat on low until warm, pour into mug(s) and top with whip cream.

Pumpkin Spice Hot Cocoa
-Ingredients: 1 cup of milk, 1 tsp maple syrup, 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice, 1 tsp unsweetend dark cocoa.

– To Make: Combine all ingredients in sauce pan and heat on low until warm, pour into mug and garnish with whip cream. I would’ve added a cinnamon stick if I had one.

Now don’t get me wrong I love a simple, no frills, hot cocoa (topped with whipped cream of course), but sometimes it’s fun to spice them up a bit and added some more flavor to them. Let me know if you try any of these recipes or if you have any other ones. Also, let me know what things you love to do during this time of year!

Fall Crafts and Recipes I Want to Try

*photos are not mine. All credit to owners.

It’s getting to be most wonderful time of the year, Fall. I feel like fall is so many peoples favorite time, and it’s very easy to see why. I personally love the fashion, the decor and all around coziness of this time. I also feel like I become more motivated and productive during this time. Does anybody else feel that way? I have been spending lots of time browsing Pinterest for recipes and crafts, and I thought it be fun to share some things I want to try out. Let me know if you’d do any of these or projects you are wanting to try.

I am in no way super crafty, so these aren’t anything over the top. Just some fun DIY’S

I am a huge fan of using my slow cooker, and I know I am going to be using my a bunch as it starts to get colder. It is just so easy and convenient to throw stuff in and not have to worry about what you’re going to have to cook for dinner. Also, you can freeze stuff which is once again very convenient.

There are so many other desserts I want to try, but I didn’t want to overshare because this post would become obnoxiously long.

I can’t wait to start trying out these recipes and projects. If you end up trying any of these I have shared let me know!

Sunday Spill

I wanted to start a new series I guess you could call it that I will be titling Sunday Spill. Basically I will be talking about things I have had on my mind and sharing my thoughts and opinions about things. Today I wanted to kick this idea off by talking about pressures I have placed on myself when it comes to blogging and creating content. If there are other subjects you’d like me to cover let me know. Also, these are going to be very rambly and probably not very organized, so there’s your warning!

Alright,  I feel like I say this a lot, but once again it has been a minute since I have posted something and firstly I wanna address how guilty that makes me feel because a large part of me feels this pressure to consistently put up content. However, I am also realistic in the fact that I can’t continuously put out well constructed content week after week. Can other people do that yes absolutely, but me personally I can’t. I am trying to get to a place where I don’t put pressure on myself when it comes to this blog. I created this platform to share things and create post I am happy with and maybe I will put together multiple blog post I am happy with 4 times in one week and maybe I won’t post any blog posts the next week. I know one of the biggest answers to the question “how do I become a successful blogger?” is “be consistent and scheduled” I get why it’s important, but at the same time I personally just can’t follow it and at the moment I am viewing this as quality over quantity. I would rather have 3-4 great post put out in the span of a month then 10+ okayish ones I put out because I felt like I had to. This pressure thing is something I have struggled with a lot a very recently it has been really effecting me, so I am trying to rewire my thoughts if that is the right way to put it, and remember that I am the creator of this blog and I post and share what I chose to. I feel like I just majorly rambled that whole thing, so hopefully it makes sense what I am trying to say. Does anybody else feel this way?
Another thing that has been on my mind A LOT, and something I am working on yet struggling with is jealousy and envy of other bloggers and influencers. I don’t like to use those words, but 100% truth it is exactly how I feel, and I did speak about this in a few post back about self confidence and social media, but I am still going to talk about it here because 1) it is something I am still struggling with and trying to manage and 2) whether anybody will admit it or not I know I am not the only one who feels this way. I know I stated in previously in this post that I created this blog to share things that I loved and create content that I am happy with, and yes that is true, but I would be lying if I said I never had those moments where I think “imagine if this was my job! what a dream that would be” (yes I do realize a lot of work goes into a career like this and that it’s not just cool instagram photos and free things) I am just being real and saying I have had thoughts like that and I still do. I see all these influencers and bloggers mainly on Instagram getting all these amazing products sent to them, wearing these hella cute clothes and I want that.  I would love to have a blog that thousands heck I would be happy with hundreds of people came to visit for recommendations, and simply because they love it.  Yet I need to be realistic in the fact that that may never happen, but that doesn’t mean I can’t create great content that I am happy with. I shouldn’t slack on my work just because it reaches a small audience. I don’t think it is wrong to have the goal of wanting to be a big time blogger, but at the same time I need to be realistic and focus on what I have right now, and not let other peoples stats effect me. Once again asking basically the same question I did previously: is this something you can relate to?

I am not entirely sure how to close this, and there are other things I want to talk about, but I don’t wanna make this a super long post, but it probably already is. Anyways I just wanna share that I want to start becoming more open on here and sharing things other then just makeup I am loving or clothes I bought. I want to also use this space to talk about things that are on my mind, and I hope it connect well with you guys. As I have mentioned if there is something you’d like me to talk about let me know or if you wanna have a conversation with me leave a comment. If you read this far you are wonderful that thanks for taking the time out of your day to read this

Hope you enjoyed!

Bathroom Tour

Bathroom Tour

I’m so excited to say the hubby and I are officially moved into our first home together. Is it the grandest of homes? No it’s not, but I love our quaint little home, and I am so ready to start decorating, and adding our personal touches to truly make it our home. A lot of cosmetic work needs to go into this home, and while I’d love to do it all at once I’m “ballin’ on a budget” as they say, so that will be a work I’m progress and I am going to work with what I got for right now. I am going to be sharing post dedicated to each room in our home (not back to back). I love seeing other people’s room tours as I always find some sort of inspiration, so I hope you can find some from my home or at the least enjoy reading it, and seeing photos!

The photo posted above is when you are standing in the door way. To the left out of shot is the toilet ( not photo worthy!), so you can get a layout idea. Shower curtain is from Walmart!

This is the storage cupboard above the toilet seat which I decided will hold toilet paper and my very beloved candles which I’m sure will be even larger when I make it to Bath and Body Works to check out their fall candles! What is your favorite scent from them???

This cupboard is behind the door to the room, and it is such a great piece of additional storage. I put our dogs things and some of my extra bits of stuff that I don’t grab all the time.

Here’s the mirror. I took it at a weird angle since I was in my pj’s and I don’t wear the cute blogger girl pjs you see on Instagram Lol. Anyways I also know some people (like myself) like to see what people keep in their medicine cabinets, so peep the photos below. Don’t get to exciting it’s nothing that great

And no I don’t know where the cap is for my deodorant, but hey, at least I’m wearing some!

Here’s the counter top, and I will be coming back to appreciate this photo because it will not stay this organized and clean looking for long.

There’s a pretty decent amount of storage here, so I’m happy with that. I wasn’t going to bothering making the drawers look organized inside, since I knew they’d just end up all disorganized anyways.

Top drawer has some random stuff like nail polish and a lip liner, but it also has everyday stuff like tooth brushes, and make wipes.

The second drawer is dedicated to face products. My everyday/fave products are in the medicine cabinet.

The third drawer is body stuff such as lotions and sprays. As well as q-tips and nail polish remover.

Finally here is underneath the sink. This is where I keep my caboodle which holds the majority of my makeup, and refills for soap along with shampoo, and other bits.

And that is my bathroom. If you are sharing room tours of any on your blog, let me know!!

Self Confidence & Social Media

Self Confidence & Social Media

We have all heard this quote above. I’m sure many of us have told someone or been told this quote to ourselves, and it is so freaking true! Is there ever a circumstance where comparing yourself to someone else brings to a sense of joy or a feeling of comfort? I know it doesn’t for me. Back in the day we would compare ourselves to our friends thinking “there clothes are so much cuter than mine” or ” she is so much prettier than I am” Now a days we are stilling having those same feelings except now social media has come into play, and we have these thoughts (and much more) about we’e never even met. Why do we let strangers faces on a phone or computer screen dictate our self worth or how we feel about our lives? Now don’t get me wrong I think social media has a lot of pros to it, but we must admit that it has very  much affected how we see ourselves. Would we still feel this way if social media wasn’t around or as relevant? (lolz! imagine that.)

I have always been the type of person who thought self confidence and self worth were so important. I’d tell my friends that they just needed to be more confident in themselves. Even today I tell my husband he needs to have more confidence in himself and not stress out about what other people think. However, recently I needed to be reminded about what I said so passionately to other people. I let social media and strangers affect my sense of self worth to the point of crying unable to control my emotions.  I was also having one of those days where I didn’t like any of my clothes and my makeup looked like crap (yeah, we know how much fun those days are *major eye roll*) Just a bunch of little things that just kept adding up. How did I get to this point? Follower count. Instagram follower counts.

Just typing that makes me rather annoyed with myself, but I am the type of person who believes my feelings are valid and the reasoning for them are valid. Anyways, I was having one of those days where I wasn’t feeling very confident in myself (we all have those days) and I had been losing Instagram followers in the dozens (40+ in 2 days) and I was seeing everyone else on my feed garnering all these likes and comments, “what was I doing wrong?” I wondered. That was a first mistake making it personal. I didn’t know why it affected me so much, but it  did. It affected me to the point of my husband having to sit with me while I cried and cried. Why am I not good enough? I thought my content was good, I thought my pictures looked nice? What was I doing wrong? But more importantly why was I letting a social media platform affect me so much?!

In today’s age comparison is so hugely relevant and social media is no exception. In fact it seems to be the place where comparison is most evident. What started out as a fun hobby for me was starting to cause me emotional pain all because I was comparing myself to others.  I let number on someone else’s page affect my personal thoughts about myself. The thing is in the grand scheme of things follower count is so minuet. Yes these people may have great photos on their Instagram, they may have a lot of followers, and they may portray their lives as being put together, but put the camera down and log out of social media how great is their lives? how happy, confident, and content are they? We are comparing ourselves to people who we truly know very minimal about.

So how can we having strong self confidence in a world of social media? I can’t speak for everybody, but I can speak for myself and how I am going to improve my confidence and feelings of self worth towards myself. I am going to remind myself that a social media page doesn’t show every detail of a person. In reality social media can be very very vague (depending on what people chose to share). I remind myself that these people who might be “popular” on Instagram might be struggling behind the scenes. Yes they might be happy at times, but I’m sure like everybody else they have problems. We all have things we’d like to change whether it be about our lives or how we look, and we need to remember that every one has these thoughts. Everyone.

Now maybe instead of having these thoughts and comparing ourselves to others we can fill our thoughts with more affirming ideas about ourselves. We all have things we are good at: being a good friend, listening, doing makeup, being artistic, helping others. I guarantee if we had someone else say what they thought about us they would list so much more positive than negative (if they list more negative they aren’t your friend and you need to say peace out, girl scout!) Why don’t we start thinking of ourselves more positively? Let’s have more self confidence in ourselves. Yes I am aware of how much easier said than done this is, but you’d be amazed at how much one positive affirmation to yourself everyday can help build up your self confidence. Write down a positive attributes about yourself and write them down or put them up around your room or house. Enjoy social media, but remember that in the grand scheme of things it is such a minuet part of life.

If you are highly involved in social media here is another thing I am choosing to remind myself which is “to honor your pace” You will get to where you  want to get to. You can even exceed past your goals, but you need to accept the fact that it will take time. You will hit bumps in the road. You will hit snags and set backs, but you’ll get to your goal. Honor you pace accept that fact that hard work takes time. If you believe in yourself that is such a huge huge step in the right direction. Everyone achieves their goals and reaches their dreams in their own time and you and I will as well.

How has social media affected you whether it’s good or bad?

I know this was a different post compared to what I typically do (beauty and fashion), so if you read this far I really appreciate you reading and listening to my thoughts. I think writing is very therapeutic, and I am sure there are other people who have felt how I did, so I wanted to share those feelings. So again thank you for reading! If you would like me to share my thoughts on other subjects just let me know! xx

My Candle Collection

My Candle Collection

Wow has this last week of life been crazy for me. We found out a couple days ago that we need to be moved out of our apartment on the 19th of this month, and I thought we had until the end of the month, so I’ve been spending most days packing. Man do I hate packing! What do you hate more: packing or unpacking? I am excited though because we are moving into a house so it’ll be much more space than our one bedroom apartment.

It’s not until packing that you realize how much stuff you have at least that is how I feel. I knew I had a lot of candles, but I didn’t realize I had this many. And yes I still want to buy more candles. Is that bad? Yeah, it probably is.

I’m really bad at desiring scents, so I’m not going to bother will that. Oh how nice it would to have smell-ivision. When will that be created? That would be a useful invention right?! I am going to link every candle that is available. The semi-annual sale is currently going on which is the time I usually stock up on candles (get some Holiday shopping done), so if you are wanting some new candles now is a great time to get some.

Alright if any of the unlinked ones become avaliable or I find them somewhere I will update this post and link them. Well there you go that is my entire candle collection. What do you love to collect? Also, if there is a brand of candles of I need to try. Let me know.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Thank you for reading! xx

Storage tips for small apartments.

Storage tips for small apartments.

Today I wanted to share some ways that I utilize/save space around my apartment. I am no interior decorator, so sorry if you were expecting something really cool… anyways, for reference the hubby and I live in a one bedroom/one bathroom apartment, so space is limited. However, even those these are tips from small apartments, obviously you can do stuff like this in any sort of living space. I’m sure when we get a house, I will also use the storage trick I used here over there.

I’m going to break down by rooms how I save space and I am going to start with the bathroom

One space saving way I did not include in this post but still wanted to mention was my over the door makeup storage. I received a over the door jewelry storage cupboard as a bridal shower gift, but I don’t wear jewelry and therefore don’t own a lot, so I chose to use it for makeup storage and it saves up so much space. This is such a good way to save space and neatly store makeup.

From the photos above, you can see that the other way I save space is by storing my skincare products in command baskets and using a shower caddy to hold shower products. Both of these things are so easy to apply and require no tools. There are both such simple things, but they both make life a lot easier. I especially like the skincare in the baskets as it makes doing my skincare routines a lot easier just having everything right there. I’m sure you could paint the baskets if you wanted to add some pizzaz to them.

The other way I save space in the bathroom is above the toilet. I will note that at one point that basket was mounted on the wall, but it ended up slipping off. However, I don’t think it looks bad like this. I also added the (fake) plant to spruce it up a bit and on a totally unrelated note those fresheners from Febreeze are amazing!

Moving onto the kitchen I technically only have one storage tip as the baskets on the wall isn’t really a space saving tip,but I still wanted to include it because I thought it was a cute decoration idea. If you are curious these green baskets I use are from Walmart and are pretty inexpensive. I’m a women on a budget, so I am always looking for affordable ways to decorate the apartment. Anyways, the one storage trick I have in the kitchen is the basket above the stove to hold spices. Having the items right there is very handy when I actually find myself using the stove or cooking in general…  I am trying to get better. Keyword being trying.

And finally my last storage tip is for the closet. We are very fortunate that our apartment has three closets including a walk in closet. This is all well and dandy, but I have a  lot of clothes even after I had a huge wardrobe clean out. There are so many ways you can use these bins whether it be to store chilren’s toys, books, dvds, shoes etc. I actually am using a couple of these to store dvds in the living area, and have used these before to store miscellaneous items. Currently in my closet I use them to store undergarments, pants, and sweatshirts. It saves up a lot of space in the closet.

And those are my storage tricks I have implemented around my apartment. How do you save space around your apartment/home. Let me know!

A Fresh Start

I’m Sarah, the creator of the beauty and brunch blog, welcome to my first  post here on this site. Now while I am not new to blogging, it has been a while since I have typed up a blog post and that is extremely apparent to me because I’ve been sitting her for quite a while now thinking of what I should be saying. I previously ran the site alisvolatpropriss.com and while I loved that site and had it for about 3-4 years, I fell out of blogging for quite a while due to life and just lack of motivation/creativity. Also, to be completely honest, I felt like I wasn’t good enough, it seems that now a days everyone is blogging and I’m sure many of you have asked yourself the same questions I did which such as “why can’t I be as good as those bloggers?” Or “when will I be successful?” Blogging is a rather competitive thing in my opinion it’s all about standing out from a large crowd and appealing to people, being relatable. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish I was like those successful bloggers who make a living doing this and get pr packages sent to them or get to go to fashion week all over the world. It somewhat messes with your head because you sit there thinking I’m not successful until I’m at that level, at least that’s how I felt. I wanted the thousand of followers and all the success and it frustrated me that after 3-4 years I didnt  have it. I lost motivation and all around interest in regards to blogging because I became so focused on statistics and not doing this for myself and my own enjoyment.

After a while I decided that I was ready to get back into it, but I wanted to do it with a clean slate, a fresh start.  Hence the creation of this new blog. Even though I had a blog for a few years, I am starting to realize that I am having to relearn a lot of things when it comes to running a blog from customizing the site to putting together blog posts. I’d like to say I have a bunch of blog post ideas tucked into my back pocket but honesty is the best policy, and I most definitely don’t. but I know I will come up with some, there is inspiration all around to get my creativity buzzing.  I’m excited to see where this blog goes and I hope you will join me on the journey. One thing I know that’s going to happen with this blog is that I won’t focus on statistics or numbers because I got into blogging for my own enjoyment at the very beginning and that’s what is going to be the foundation of this blog.

How do you deal with bouts of writers block and lack of creativity along with not focusing on the statistics and numbers?

Thanks for checking out this post

I hope you have a lovely life! Xx
